About AE

AnimalEmancipation is an Ottawa-based, transnational animal advocacy group that promotes public education about veganism and provides abolitionist animal rights and vegan outreach materials. Our goal is to educate people about veganism and the rights of nonhuman animals not to be used as property, as well as to promote an end to their use as human property. Founded in 2009, AE’s materials are used by advocates in Europe, across North America, and Oceania.

As an organization, AE does not promote single issue campaigns (e.g., campaigns against fur), campaigns that focus on animal treatment rather than animal use (e.g., campaigns for an extra quarter-inch of cage space by the year 2025), antic-based activism, sexist, racist or speciesist campaigns, violence or adventurism. We also reject campaigns that claim to “not negotiate treatment” but fail to explicitly challenge the property paradigm. We do not take donations.

We do, however, promote creative, nonviolent vegan outreach that lays the groundwork for the abolition and not the regulation of the property status of nonhuman animals, as well as legal animal adoption to restore their personhood. We adhere unequivocally to the six principles of the abolitionist animal rights position. And if you wish to donate to a cause that will make a difference to nonhuman animals, please donate to an appropriate animal rescue or shelter. Shelters always need money.
